Eagles Lose Conference-Opener to No. 7 State College of Florida

WINTER HAVEN - In the first game of the 2012 Suncoast Conference season, the Polk State College Eagles (22-5, 0-1) did all they could but were unable to catch the No. 7 State College of Florida (19-7, 1-0) in Winter Haven on Friday night.

Alec Asher pitched eight scoreless innings for the Eagles and proceeded to allow one unearned run in the top of the ninth. Asher finished with five strikeouts and three walks while yielding five hits.

Polk had five hits and catcher Erik Hindmon was 2-for-4 with a double.

Game two of the three-game conference-opening series will be played on Saturday, March 10, at 1 p.m. in Bradenton with the finale scheduled for Monday at 6 p.m.
