WINTER HAVEN – Freshman pitcher Chase Sparkman raised his record to a perfect 6-0 with eight strong innings, and Sophomore Michael Danner provided the power at the plate as Polk State defeated South Florida Community College 7-2 on Wednesday night in Winter Haven.

With the victory the Eagles improve to 32-9 and 8-5 in the Suncoast Conference, while the Panthers fall to 18-24-1 and 3-10 in league action.

Sparkman allowed five hits and struck out two. Freshman Trey Norris struck out the side in the ninth.

Danner hit his sixth home run of the season and drove in three runs. Freshman catcher Erik Hindmon hit 2-for-5 and freshman outfielder Brett Jones was 1-for-2 with a double and two runs scored.

The Eagles and Panthers continue their three game set on Friday in Avon Park at 6 p.m.
