TAMPA - The No. 3 Polk baseball team defeated Hillsborough, 10-7, Wednesday night at Steinbrenner Field.
The Eagles have now won five-straight games and own a 36-9 overall record on the season, including 12-5 in Suncoast Conference play.
Conor Szczerba went 3-for-6 with three RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base to lead the Eagles. Colt Hankamer went 2-for-6 with two RBIs, and Kyle Chastain scored two runs on 2-for-4 hitting.
The game was tied at 6-6 in the ninth, when the Eagles scored four runs. Hillsborough Community College fought back, loading the bases and getting a run across before Polk relief pitcher Steven Burnham picked off the Hillsborough runner at second, and then induced a pop fly to end the game.
The two teams play again at 6 p.m. Friday in Winter Haven.
