Polk State College Honors 2012 State Champion Baseball Team
WINTER HAVEN – Polk State College honors its 2012 state championship baseball team Wednesday, Dec. 5, with a ring ceremony at halftime of the Eagles' men's basketball game at the Winter Haven Health Center, located at 999 Avenue H NE.
The 2012 Eagles captured the state championship in Lakeland in May for the first time since 1992. They advanced to the (NJCAA) National Junior College Athletic Association's World Series in Colorado in May. They concluded the season with a No. 3 NJCAA ranking and a 46-12 record.
The team claimed its second consecutive Suncoast Conference title, earning a berth into the FCSAA state tournament.
Catcher Erik Hindmon was named Defensive Player of the Year.
Outfielder Mike Danner, infielder Conor Szczerba and Asher were named to the FSCAA first team.
Pitcher Brian Johnson was named to the FCSAA second team.
Head coach Al Corbeil was also named the Coach of the Year from the Florida Diamond Club, a non-profit club of professional baseball scouts.
