Eagles Fall To Hillsborough 6-3, Win Series
Mistakes cost the top-ranked Polk State College baseball team a victory Saturday as the Eagles (20-3) fell to Hillsborough 6-3 at home.
The loss snapped an 11-game win streak for Polk.
The Eagles, who are ranked third in the NJCAA, committed five errors in the cold, windy contest.
Polk's Colyn O'Connell (Dunedin) suffered the loss. O'Connell gave up four runs (two earned) on four hits.
Reliever Kyle Schackne (Lakeland/McKeel) pitched well, giving up two unearned runs on two hits over three innings. He struck out four.
Eagle Cody DeNoyelles (Windermere) singled in two runs. Will Palmerton (Auburndale) also drove in a run.
Art Knight (Plant City) was 3-for-4 and reached on an error. He also scored a run.
Hillborough's Kory Britton was 3-for-4 with an RBI as the Hawks improved to 7-14-1.
Polk, which won the three-game series over Hillsborough 2-1, travels to St. Petersburg Monday.
Polk hosts St. Petersburg Wednesday at 6 p.m.
