Eagles soar past Hawks for seventh straight win

Polk State won its seventh straight game today, beating Hillsborough Community College 4-3 in Tampa. 

Trailing 3-1 after five innings, the Eagles got a run in the seventh and scored the tying and winnings runs in the eighth. 

With two stolen bases in the game, Luke Parker tied the school record for steals in a season (40).  He also had a single, a walk, a run scored, and an RBI. 

Kyle Jackson's home run in the second inning accounted for Polk State's first run. 

Brandon Gali went two-for-four with two stolen bases. His RBI single in the eighth inning brought home the winning run. 

Kaylor Kulina singled and drove in a run, and Andrew Stroud scored a run. 

Luis Ferrer (3-0) picked up the win in relief. Cody Gamble worked the ninth inning to earn his 12th save, which ties him for the lead in Florida (FCSAA Region 8) and the nation (NJCAA D1). 

The Hawks scored their three runs off of starting pitcher Jacob Kelley, who allowed six hits while striking out one. 

Joe Strzelecki, Zak Spivy, and Jordan Guerrero also pitched out of the bullpen.  

The Eagles (34-13, 16-6, No. 4 FCSAA) play Hillsborough Community College again on Friday at 6 p.m. in Winter Haven.
