Eagles fly past Florida Southwestern in 12 innings

Polk State beat Florida Southwestern 5-4 in 12 innings today at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven.

The Eagles have won two in a row and have gone 5-0 in extra-inning games this season. 

Down 4-2 going into the bottom of the ninth, the Eagles scored a pair of runs to send the game into extra innings. Zach Biermann's single in the 12th scored the winning run.

Polk State had 11 hits.

Zach Scott went 2-for-5 with a walk and a run.

Cole Warken had a single, a double, a stolen base, and two RBI.

Zach Diewert singled, walked, stole a base, and scored.

Marquis Orozco had a walk, a sacrifice fly, and an RBI.

Skylar Frey walked and scored.

Isaiah Cullum, Bradley Harmon, Austin Hoffman, and Raudy Martinez each singled 

Zach Schneider (5-1) earned the win in relief. He pitched three shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out two.

Starting pitcher Shameko Smith worked six innings, giving up a run on five hits and a walk while recording five strikeouts.

The Buccaneers scored three runs (two unearned) on two hits off Chavez Fernander.

Chad Tworek pitched two and two-thirds shutout innings.

The Eagles (21-7, 5-2, No. 3 FCSAA, No. 7 NJCAA) play at Florida Southwestern at 6 p.m. Monday.
