Eagles soar past Hawks 15-5

Polk State had 14 hits in a 15-5 seven-inning win over Hillsborough Community College tonight at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven. 

The Eagles have now won 15 games by 10 or more runs this season. 

The Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on two singles and a double. 

The Eagles answered with three runs in their half of the inning. 

Raudy Martinez led off with a double and scored on Zach Scott's two-out single. Cole Warken followed with a triple down the right-field line, scoring Scott. Isaiah Cullum then drove in Warken with a single. 

Polk State extended its lead to 6-2 in the bottom of the second. 

Jonah Garrison led off with a walk, Martinez singled, and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. A walk to Skylar Frey loaded the bases. Garrison scored on a wild pitch, and Scott doubled home two runs. 

The Hawks picked up a run the following inning on a hit batter, a sacrifice, and a single. 

The Eagles broke the game open in the bottom of the third, rallying for seven runs after two outs.

Martinez reached first on a bunt single. Frey struck out, but the catcher dropped the third strike and then made a wild throw to first base, scoring Martinez and sending Frey to third. 

Zach Diewert followed with a four-pitch walk and stole second. 

Frey scored on a balk, with Diewert moving to third and scoring when Scott singled on a 3-2 pitch. 

Warken then lined a double to left to score Scott, and Cullum blasted a pitch over the left-field fence for a two-run homer. 

Zach Biermann made it back-to-back home runs when he sent a pitch over the center-field fence. 

Polk State added a run in the fifth when Diewert walked, raced to third on a wild pitch, and scored when Cullum doubled on a 3-2 pitch with two outs. 

The Hawks scored their final two runs in the sixth on a two-run homer. 

The Eagles put the winning run on the board in the bottom of the inning. Pinch-hitter Bradley Harmon led off with a walk, took second on a wild pitch, and scored on Martinez's single. 

Justin Gill (5-2) earned the win. In five innings, he allowed five runs on five hits, walking three and striking out three. 

Drew Marino worked the final two frames, giving up no hits or runs and striking out one. 

Cullum went 3-for-4 with a run and four RBI. 

Scott also drove in four runs. 

Martinez had two singles, a pair of doubles, an RBI, and three runs. 

Warken went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple, two runs, and two RBI. 

Diewert had three walks, two runs, and two stolen bases. 

Frey walked and scored twice. 

Garrison had a run and a walk. 

The Eagles (31-10, 15-5, No. 2 FCSAA, No. 5 NJCAA) play Hillsborough again Wednesday in Tampa.
