Facing elimination, Polk State jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning and went on to defeat Eastern Florida 8-4 last night in the FCSAA State/NJCAA District Baseball Tournament at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland.
Polk State, the visiting team, started the top of the second with a single on a 3-2 pitch to Isaiah Cullum.
With the bases full, Skylar Frey doubled to score three runs.
Zach Diewert then blasted a two-run homer, giving the Eagles a 5-0 advantage.
The Titans got on the board in the third inning on a single, two ground outs, and another single.
They added two runs in the fifth after a pair of singles and a double.
Polk State extended its lead in the seventh when Frey led off with a single and stole second base. Zach Scott walked, and both runners pulled off a double steal, putting them at third and second base.
Cole Warken then lined a 2-2 pitch up the middle for a single, scoring Frey and Scott.
In the top of the ninth, the Eagles scored a final run when Warken's double to left scored Scott from first base, giving Polk State an 8-3 advantage.

Smith worked four and one-third of an inning before leaving with a hip injury. He allowed three runs on eight hits, walking one and striking out two.
Tworek then took the mound and gave up just one hit in two and two-thirds of an inning. He walked none and struck out two.
Luis Ferrer followed Tworek out of the bullpen, pitching two-thirds of an inning and allowing two hits and a pair of walks.
Schneider gave up a pair of hits and struck out two.
Frey went 3-for-5 with a double, a run, three RBI, and two stolen bases.
Warken also drove in three runs and stole a base.
Scott walked, singled, and scored twice.
Diewert went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Cullum went 2-for-5.
Zach Biermann walked, scored a run, and stole a base.
The Eagles play State College of Florida today at 1 p.m. in another elimination game.
