Facing elimination, Polk State jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning and went on to defeat Eastern Florida 8-4 last night in the FCSAA State/NJCAA District Baseball Tournament at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland.

Polk State, the visiting team, started the top of the second with a single on a 3-2 pitch to Isaiah Cullum

After Zach Biermann walked and Bradley Harmon was hit by a pitch, Cullum was erased at third on a ground out by Raudy Martinez.

With the bases full, Skylar Frey doubled to score three runs.

Zach Diewert then blasted a two-run homer, giving the Eagles a 5-0 advantage.

The Titans got on the board in the third inning on a single, two ground outs, and another single.

They added two runs in the fifth after a pair of singles and a double.

Polk State extended its lead in the seventh when Frey led off with a single and stole second base. Zach Scott walked, and both runners pulled off a double steal, putting them at third and second base.

Cole Warken then lined a 2-2 pitch up the middle for a single, scoring Frey and Scott.

In the top of the ninth, the Eagles scored a final run when Warken's double to left scored Scott from first base, giving Polk State an 8-3 advantage.

Eastern Florida scored its final run in the bottom of the frame on a double and a single

Justin Tworek earned the win in relief of Shameko Smith. Zach Schneider picked up the save.

Tworek then took the mound and gave up just one hit in two and two-thirds of an inning. He walked none and struck out two.

Luis Ferrer followed Tworek out of the bullpen, pitching two-thirds of an inning and allowing two hits and a pair of walks.

Schneider gave up a pair of hits and struck out two.
