Eagles lose 4-0 to St. Johns River

Polk State's offense struggled tonight in a 4-0 loss to St. Johns River State College (No. 8 FCSAA) at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven. 

The Vikings took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a single, an error, and a double. 

They added a pair of runs in the sixth inning on an RBI single and a bases-loaded walk. 

The Eagles threatened in the fourth when they loaded the bases with two out but failed to score. 

They also put runners at second and third with two outs in the bottom of the ninth before making the final out. 

The Eagles collected just six hits. 

Cody Oerther singled and doubled. 

Trent Sinkfield had a single, a walk, and a stolen base. 

Nico Limoncelli went 2-for-4. 

Starting pitcher Pat Doudican (0-1) took the loss. In four and one-third innings he gave up 2 runs on seven hits, walking four and striking out five. 

Billy McKay worked one and two-thirds of an inning and allowed two runs on two hits. 

Danny Madden pitched the final three frames, allowing no runs and no hits while striking out six. 

The Eagles (5-6) travel to Melbourne tomorrow for a 5 p.m. game at Eastern Florida State College (No. 10 FCSAA).
