Eagles down Tampa JV for fifth straight win

Polk State earned its fifth consecutive win, and second straight shutout, defeating the University of Tampa JV 7-0 tonight at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven. 

The Eagles broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the fourth inning. 

Nico Limoncelli led off with an infield single and moved to second after Trent Sinkfield reached first on an error. Danny Berg's bunt single loaded the bases, and Mile Simington walked, scoring Limoncelli from third. 

After Mitch Osborne's sacrifice fly scored Sinkfield, Christian Nehls delivered an RBI single, scoring Berg. 

Alec Barger followed with a hit-and-run single to score Nehls and give the Eagles a 4-0 advantage. 

In the seventh, Sam Koruschak led off with a walk, stole second, and scored on Zach Scott's single. 

Scott scored on a single by Sinkfield, making the score 6-0. 

The Eagles added a run in the eighth when Barger doubled with two out and crossed the plate on another single by Scott. 

Four Eagles pitchers held the Spartans to five hits. 

Starter Danny Madden (1-2) earned the win. In six and one-third innings he allowed three hits, walking two and striking out seven. 

Bryce Van Horn worked a third of an inning, allowing one hit. 

Julio Blanco gave up no hits and struck out two in one and one-third innings. 

Jared Freilich worked the ninth, yielding a two-out single and striking out one batter. 

The Eagles collected 15 hits and four walks. 

Scott went 3-for-5 with a run and two RBI. 

Koruschak singled twice, walked twice, stole a base, and scored a run. 

Barger had a 3-for-5 game with a double, a run, and an RBI. 

Sinkfield collected three singles, a run, a stolen base, and an RBI. 

Limoncelli had a pair of single, a pair of stolen bases, and a run. 

Christian Nehls singled, scored a run, drove in a run, and stole a base. 

The Eagles (11-9) begin Suncoast Conference play Monday at 5 p.m. against St. Petersburg College in St. Pete.
