Eagles start conference action with road win

Polk State began Suncoast Conference play with a 13-2 seven-inning win over St. Petersburg College last night in St. Pete. 

The Eagles collected 10 hits while cruising to their sixth straight win. 

Chavez Fernander earned the win in relief with four and one-third 4.1 shutout innings. He struck out six while improving his record to 4-1. 

Starting pitcher Alec Barger allowed two runs on four hits in two and two-thirds of an inning. 

Trailing 1-0, the Eagles offense exploded for five runs in the third inning and eight more in the following frame. 

Trent Sinkfield doubled, tripled, scored twice, and drove in three runs. 

Zach Scott also had three RBI and scored a pair of runs. 

Cody Oerther scored three runs, singled, walked twice, and stole a base. 

Miles Simington had a double, a pair of walks, a run, and an RBI. 

Chase Ashby singled, walked, drove in a run, and scored twice. 

Danny Berg finished with a single, a walk, and an RBI. 

Mitch Osborne collected a single, a sacrifice fly, a run, and two RBI. 

Sam Koruschak singled, scored a run, and drove in a run.

The Eagles (12-9) have averaged eight and one-half runs per game during their six-game winning streak. They face St. Pete again tomorrow at 6 p.m. at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven.
