Eagles fall to Hawks 5-2

Polk State dropped a 5-2 decision to Hillsborough Community College today at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven. 

The Hawks took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a pair of singles and a double. 

They added solo runs in the fourth and fifth innings, taking a 4-0 lead. 

The Eagle got on the board in the fifth on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Miles Simington and a single by Zach Scott, cutting the deficit to 4-2. 

The Hawks added their final run in the seventh. 

The Eagles had runners on base in the final three innings but couldn't score. 

Scott went 3-for-4 with a walk and an RBI. 

Mitch Osborne singled twice, walked, and scored a run. 

Alec Barger and Danny Berg each had two singles. 

Pat Doudican started on the mound. In 6.1 innings he allowed five runs on eight hits, walking three and striking out six. 

Jared Freilich faced two batters and retired them both. 

Danny Berg pitched the final two innings, allowing no runs on a hit, two walks and a strikeout. 

The Eagles (13-14, 2-5) have lost five in a row. They travel to Tampa tomorrow to play Hillsborough at 1 p.m.
