Eagles win 7-5 at South Florida

Polk State got back in the win column today, beating South Florida State College 7-5 in Avon Park.

Starting pitcher Alec Barger worked eight innings to earn the win.

The Panthers put the potential tying runs on base in the bottom of the ninth, but Chavez Fernander shut down the threat, getting a strikeout, a ground out, and a popup to end the game.

Five of the Eagles' runs came on home runs. Trent Sinkfield hit a three-run blast and Rhys Cratty cleared the fence with a two-run shot.

The Eagles (15-17, 4-8) play Florida Southwestern at 6 p.m. Monday at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven.
