Polk State won its second straight game tonight, shutting out Florida Southwestern 8-0 at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven.
The Buccaneers put runners at second and third with one out in the fourth inning, but Chavez Fernander struck out the next two hitters to retire the side.
In the fifth inning the Eagles put a pair of runs on the board.
The Eagles broke the game open with five runs in the sixth.
With two out, Evan Johnson's pinch-hit single scored Sam Koruschak. Walks to Danny Berg and Nico Limoncelli loaded the bases. After a Florida Southwestern pitching change, Scott greeted the reliever with a bases-clearing triple, putting Polk State ahead 8-0.
Fernander earned the win , improving to 7-2. In six innings he gave up six hits while walking one and striking out six.
Scott finished with five RBI, a run, two singles, and a triple.
Oerther went 2-gor-4 with a walk, a double, and two runs.
Berg walked twice, scored twice, and drove in a run.
Simington had a single and an RBI.
Trent Sinkfield singled and walked.

The Eagles (16-17, 5-8) play Florida Southwestern again Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Fort Myers.
