Comeback falls short as Eagles lose 15-11 to St. Pete

Polk State scored 11 runs today but lost 15-11to St. Petersburg College at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven. 

After jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, the Eagles found themselves trailing 15-5 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh and facing a run-rule loss. Miles Watson then blasted a three-run home run, cutting the deficit to 15-8 and giving Polk State the chance to play at least one more inning. 

Back-to-back doubles by Nico Limoncelli and Chase Ashby made it a 15-9 game. 

In the eighth inning, Danny Berg's double on a 3-2 pitch scored Zach Scott from first base. Sam Koruschak singled to score Berg, cutting the lead to 15-11, but the Eagles could get no closer. 

Watson had a single, two walks, and a stolen base along with his home run. 

Berg went 2-for-5 with a double, a walk, two RBI, and three runs. 

Scott singled twice and scored twice. 

Koruschak had a 2-for-4 day with a walk and four RBI. 

Miles Simington doubled, walked twice, and scored twice. 

Starting pitcher Pat Doudican allowed five runs (one unearned) on five hits in 4.2 innings. He walked two and struck out six. 

Jared Freilich, Danny Madden, Julio Blanco, Bryce Van Horn, Danny Berg, and Billy McKay all pitched in relief. 

The Eagles (19-19, 6-10) play St. Pete again Monday at 6 p.m. in St. Petersburg.
