Eagles win 8-5 at South Florida

Polk State beat South Florida State College 8-5last night in Avon Park. 

The Eagles had 12 hits, including home runs by Chase Ashby and Zach Scott

Polk State led 4-0 after two innings and never trailed.  

Scott went 3-for-4 with three RBI. 

Ashby had a 2-for-5 night with a run and an RBI. 

Cody Oerther had three singles, two runs, and a stolen base. 

Sam Koruschak singled, doubled, walked twice, and scored a run. 

Trent Sinkfield had a single, a stolen base, and three RBI. 

Rhys Cratty singled, drove in a run, stole a base, and scored twice. 

Danny Berg had a single, a walk, and a run. 

Starting pitcher Alec Barger improved to 6-3. In 5.1 innings he allowed five hits and two runs (one unearned), walking one and striking out six. 

Working in relief, Jared Freilich, Danny Madden, Bryce Van Horn, Evan Johnson, and Billy McKay allowed one hit and three runs (one unearned). McKay earned his fourth save of the season.  

The Eagles (26-22, 13-13) play South Florida again Friday at 5 p.m. at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven.
