Eagles soar past Falcons on the road

Polk State stayed undefeated today, beating Daytona State 6-1 in Daytona Beach. 

The Eagles have won five in a row to start the season. 

After a scoreless first inning, Polk State scored solo runs in the second, third, and fifth innings before adding two more in the seventh and a final run in the eighth. 

The Falcons plated their lone run in the eighth. 

Starting pitcher Tate Dearing (1-0) earned the win, tossing five scoreless innings. He gave up two hits and a walk and had three strikeouts. 

Timothy Watkins pitched two innings in relief, allowing no runs and no hits while walking two and striking out one. 

Daytona State scored its run with Carter Slentz on the mound in the eighth, and Billy McKay worked a scoreless ninth inning. 

Tor Sehnert homered, singled, scored twice, and drove in a pair of runs. 

Danny Berg went two-for-three with a double, two runs, and two RBI. 

Nico Limoncelli had a single, a walk, and an RBI. 

Sam Koruschak walked, singled, and scored twice. 

Trent Sinkfield collected a single and two RBI. 

The Eagles and Falcons play again Saturday at 1 p.m. at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven.
