After starting the season with five straight wins, Polk State lost to Daytona State 3-2today at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven.
In the top of the fifth, the Falcons tied the game on a walk, a hit batter, a sacrifice, and an infield single.
Then, with two outs and the bases loaded, a throwing error on a pickoff attempt allowed two runs to score, putting Daytona State ahead 3-1.
Tor Sehnert led off the bottom of the ninth with a home run that just cleared the left-field fence, but the next three hitters were retired, giving Polk State its first loss of the season.
After averaging 10 hits in their first five game, the Eagles had only four today.
Starting pitcher Bryce Hill (0-1) took the loss. In four innings he allowed no hits, two runs (one unearned), and two walks, striking out five.
Jake Curry worked three innings, giving up a run on a hit and two walks.
The Eagles (5-1) return to action Monday when they travel to Sanford for a 2 p.m. game against Seminole State (4-0).
