Eagles lose 3-1 to South Florida

Polk State had a 1-0 lead with two outs and two South Florida runners on base in the top of the ninth, but the Panthers got three straight hits to score three runs and go on to win 3-1 today at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven. 

The Eagles scored their run in the third inning when Nico Limoncelli led off with a double down the right field line, stole third, and scored on a fielder's choice by Tor Sehnert.  

Billy McKay (1-4) took the loss in relief. 

Starter Jake Curry had a strong outing, allowing no runs on three hits, a walk, and four strikeouts in 5.2 innings. 

Alex Goff relieved Curry and tossed 2.1 shutout innings, giving up no hits and striking out two.  

Limoncelli went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, a stolen base, and a run. 

Danny Berg doubled and walked. 

Sehnert had a walk and an RBI. 

Sam Koruschak had a single and a stolen base. 

The Eagles (14-18, 4-8) travel to Fort Myers on Monday to play Florida Southwestern (26-6, 8-3, No. 2 FCSAA, No. 8 NJCAA) at 6 p.m.
