Eagles collect 12 hits in 10-1 win over Florida Southern JV

Polk State defeated Florida Southern College JV 10-1 tonight at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven.  The Eagles, who are scoring an average of 6.6 runs per game, had a dozen hits and seven stolen bases.  

After a scoreless first inning, the Eagles put five runs on the board in the second.  

Leading off, Jack Duffy drilled a 3-2 pitch for a single, and Nick Collins reached first after being hit by a pitch. Dalton Boyd singled to score Duffy, Chris Johnson loaded the bases on a bunt single, and a wild pitch scored Collins. Ty Crittenberger hit into a fielder's choice, scoring Boyd, and Dimerson Nunez blasted a triple to the center-field fence, bringing home two more runs for the 5-0 lead. 

The Moccasins picked up a run on a hit and an error the following inning. 

Polk State added three more runs in the fourth inning.  

Crittenberger drew a leadoff walk, stole second, and scored when Nick Wells singled after working the count to 3-2. He promptly stole second and scored on a single by Duffy. Collins then slammed a double to center and Duffy scored, making it 8-1. 

The Eagles picked up a pair of runs in the seventh when Jakob Hines doubled, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and then scored on a passed ball. Johnson walked, stole second, and crossed the plate for the 10th run when Crittenberger doubled. 

Wells went two-for-four with a triple, a run, an RBI, and a stolen base. 

Dimerson Nunez swiped four bases, singled, walked, and scored a run. 

Boyd had a two-for-three game with a run and an RBI. 

Duffy collected two singles, two runs, and an RBI. 

Along with his RBI double, Collins walked and scored a run. 

Crittenberger also doubled, walked, scored a run, and drove in a pair of runs. 

Johnson had a single, a walk, a stolen base, and two runs. 

Starting pitcher Cole Kramer worked two shutout innings, allowing no hits and a walk. 

Jake Curry (1-0) earned the win, giving up one unearned run on three hits, no walks, and three strikeouts in four frames. 

Jonathon Montes, Jacob Heath, and Alex Goff each tossed a shutout inning.  

The Eagles (5-5) face Palm Beach State College (7-4) at 5 p.m. Friday at Bing Tyus Yard in Winter Haven.
