The Polk State College men's basketball team earned its first Suncoast Conference victory Friday with a 62-54 win over Hillsborough Community College on the road.

The Eagles (16-7) evened their conference record to 1-1 after losing to State College of Florida in overtime on Wednesday.

Ismaila Dauda (Nigeria) led Polk Friday with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Nafis Walker (Philadelphia) scored 11 points and sophomore Ralph Simmons (Charleston, S.C.) added 10 points.

Polk trailed Hillsborough 8-0 at the 13:54 mark in the game, but the Eagles rallied to lead 27-17 at the half.

"It was an important win," said Polk State College coach Matt Furjanic. "We picked it up and played well. We got the road win we needed."
