Furjanic, Eagles Earn FCSAA Honors
On Monday, Polk State College head men's basketball coach Matt Furjanic was named Suncoast Conference Coach of the Year for the sixth time, and seven of his players were honored by the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA).
The announcement was made on the heels of Furjanic's induction into the Pittsburgh Basketball Club Hall of Fame and as the Eagles celebrated a second Suncoast Conference title in three years.
Furjanic is also a member of the Robert Morris University Hall of Fame and the East Boros Chapter of the Pennsylvania Hall of Fame.
Polk State College basketball players Ismaila Dauda (Nigeria), Bernard Samuel (Charleston, S.C.) and Ralph Simmons (Charleston, S.C.) were selected Monday to the FCSAA All Suncoast Conference First Team.
Eagles Nafis Walker (Philadelphia), Antonio Bishop (Chicago) and Shavanno Cooper (Bahamas) were named to the Suncoast Conference Second Team.
Brock Van Lier (Beaver Falls, PA) and Tyquan Burno (Jersey City, N.J.) were received Honorable Mention.
The sixth-ranked Eagles (22-8) play third-ranked Chipola (25-4) Thursday in the first round of the FCSAA/NJCAA Region 8 tournament at Chipola College in Marianna at 6 p.m., Central time.
