Eagles win shootout at Shootout

Bernard Samuel hit a three-point shot with three seconds left to give Polk State a 67-64 victory against Pensacola State today in the JUCO Shootout at Gainesville. 

The Eagles have now won five in a row.

Pensacola State entered the game ranked No. 4 in Florida. 

The Eagles had a 33-23 lead at halftime, and had a 44-27 advantage with 14 minutes left in the second half. 

The Pirates rallied for a 64-61 lead with 45 seconds left before Samuel hit a three to tie the game at 64-64. 

The Eagles then made a stop on defense and got the ball back with 26 seconds remaining. They ran the clock down to three seconds before Samuel hit his game-winning three. 

Pensacola State missed a half-court shot at the buzzer. 

Samuel led the Eagles in scoring with 22 points 

Tohi Smith-Milner added 14 points and five rebounds before leaving the game with an eye injury in the second half. 

Jaleo Wilkes had 11 points. 

The Eagles (10-5) play their final game of the JUCO Shootout against Miami Dade College (No. 7 in Florida) on Sunday at 11 a.m. in Gainesville.
