Eagles win sixth straight

Polk State won its sixth straight game today, beating Miami Dade College 94-90 in overtime at the JUCO Shootout in Gainesville. 

The Sharks entered the game ranked No. 7 in Florida. 

Polk State jumped out to a 43-27 lead at halftime, but Miami Dade tied the score  at 51-51 with 11 minutes remaining in the second half. From there on, both teams exchanged leads. 

Leading 71-70, Polk State committed a foul with 1.6 seconds left. Miami Dade made one of two free throws to tie the game at 71-71 and send it into overtime. 

The Eagles grabbed the lead with 2:30 left in overtime and kept it for the remainder of the contest, making 12 of 14 free throws. 

Shafeek Taylor had 19 points and eight rebounds while making 13 of 15 free throws. 

Nigel Grant also scored 19 points and went five for seven at the free-throw line. 

Darelle Porter added 17 points, while Tohi Smith-Milner scored 11 and grabbed six rebounds.  

The Eagles (11-5) have no games until Jan. 5, 2015.
