Polk State wrapped up non-conference play tonight with a 96-76 win over Pasco-Hernando State College in Winter Haven.
The Eagles went on a 13-0 run in the first five minutes and remained in control throughout the contest.
At halftime, Polk State led 53-28. The Conquistadors put up 48 points in the second half.
Tohi Smith-Milner led the Eagles with 20 points.
"In the first half I was pleased with our effort," said Head Coach Matt Furjanic. "In the second half I wasn't.
"We became very lackadaisical. We became offensive-minded, and we did a terrible job on defense
"When you give up 48 points in a half, I don't care who you're playing, you're going to be in trouble. So it's time to go back to work. Our team has to realize we have to play defense for 40 minutes or we're not going to be very successful."
The Eagles (15-6) open Suncoast Conference play on Wednesday at home against State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota.
"It's conference time now," said Furjanic. "We're down to nine games. Everyone in our conference has a zero-zero record, so it all depends on what we do in those nine games.
"We have to take them one game at a time. Right now we have to prepare for State College of Florida. We play them at home, so it's important to start off with a home win in the conference. That's where our minds are right now."
