Eagles soar past Hawks

Polk State improved to 2-0 in the Suncoast Conference, beating Hillsborough Community College 71-66 tonight in Tampa. 

At halftime the Eagles and Hawks were tied 25-25. 

Polk State built a 14-point lead with nine minutes to play, only to see Hillsborough fight back and trail by two, 62-60. 

The Hawks could get no closer, however, as the Eagles led 69-64 with a minute left.

Bernard Samuel led the Eagles with 20 points. 

Tohi Smith-Milner added 17 points and 9 rebounds.

The Eagles (17-6, 2-0) go on the road Wednesday to play St. Petersburg College.
