Eagles defeat Eagles in OT

In a battle of the birds, the Polk State Eagles beat the Tallahassee Community College Eagles 92-85 in overtime today at the Florida JUCO Shootout in Gainesville. 

The Eagles had a 41-38 halftime lead. Elijah Cottrill made a 15-foot jumper with seven seconds remaining, and regulation ended with the teams tied at 76. 

Polk State outscored Tallahassee 16-9 in overtime. 

Troy Simons led Polk State with 29 points. He sank four of eight three-point shots. 

Reger Baker scored 20 points and shot eight of 10 from the field. He suffered a cut above his eye that required stitches, and he is doubtful for tomorrow's game. 

Cottrill tallied 15 points, seven assists, six rebounds, and three steals. He went six-for-six at the free throw line. 

With the win, its third straight, Polk State (No. 8 FCSAA) improves to 11-4. The Eagles take on Eastern Florida (No. 3 FCSAA) tomorrow at 5 p.m. in Gainesville.
