Branislav Labudovic scored 18 points, all in the second half, and Polk State won its fourth straight game today, beating State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota 75-53 in Winter Haven.
The Eagles had a 32-24 lead at halftime and never trailed in the second half.
"This was the best game we've played this season because of the contribution from the bench," said Head Coach Matt Furjanic.
"We always tell the players to practice hard because you never know when your number's going to be called.
"Branislav Labudovic is a great example tonight. He hasn't played many minutes lately, but he came off the bench, played hard, played with a lot of energy, and gave us a spark. I thought he was the difference in the game. He went in and took advantage of his opportunity.
"He was making great post moves. He gave us the inside presence that he's been working on all year. He works hard every day, and I was really happy to see him come through tonight. He definitely was the key in this game."
Troy Simons led the Eagles with 19 points.
Stefan Nakic had seven.
At times this season, the Eagles have struggled to make defensive rebounds. That wasn't the case tonight.
"We did a great job on defensive rebounds," said Furjanic.
"Once again you have to credit our inside guys. Holding the other team to one shot is huge because usually the second shot they get is an easier one because that's the one underneath the basket. Tonight was one of our better defensive efforts."
The Eagles (9-19, 4-6) have a week off before playing Florida SouthWestern on Feb. 18 at 4 p.m. in Winter Haven.
