Polk State has struggled on the road this season but the Eagles reversed that trend tonight, winning 69-58 at St. Petersburg College and moving to 2-0 in Suncoast Conference action.
Free throws made a difference, as the Eagles shot 86.7 percent from the line while St. Pete hit only 46.7 percent.
"That's our highest percentage this season and it was a huge factor in the win," said Head Coach Brandon Giles.
"Going into conference play we've put a big emphasis on making the extra pass, taking charges, rebounding, and making free throws. We did all that tonight."
Leighton Elliott-Sewell led the Eagles with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
Tekorian "TK" Smith scored 18 points, grabbed three rebounds, and made two assists.
Alsean Evans added 12 points and five rebounds.
Milz Tatum finished with nine points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
Bernat Vanaclocha pulled down a season-high 13 rebounds while adding four points.
The Eagles (9-9, 2-0) return to action Wednesday against Hillsborough Community College at 7 p.m. in Winter Haven.
