Polk State got a big win tonight, beating the Hillsborough Community College Hawks 104-77 on Sophomore Night in Winter Haven.
The victory assures the Eagles of playing the first game of the Suncoast Conference tournament at home. They'll face St. Petersburg College (16-13, 4-7) at 7 p.m. Monday.
Polk State jumped out to a 9-0 lead and never trailed in the contest.
When Christian Woolridge scored with 1:43 remaining, the Eagles reached 100 points for the second time this season.
"It was a big win and very important because you always want to have a win headed into a big game like we have Saturday against Florida Southwestern," said Head Coach Brandon Giles. "And we definitely want to try to take care of that No. 1 team in the country.
"To win in this fashion, by the amount of points that we did, with the defensive intensity that we had tonight, that was huge.
"Everyone was together on and off the bench, and our energy was at a high level for 40 minutes.
"I'm proud of the guys and the effort they gave and proud of my coaches for the game plan they helped put together.
"It was a big-time win for us, and now we need everybody to come out Monday night and support these guys, especially with the way we play at home. If we keep this momentum headed into that game Monday that'll be huge."
Tekorian "TK" Smith led the Eagles with 21 points, giving him 500 for the season. He needs 13 more points to break the freshman record of 512 held by Troy Simons.
Bernat Vanaclocha finished with 19 points and seven rebounds.
Tatum had 17 points, six rebounds, and six assists.
Marlon Suarez netted 16 points and grabbed four rebounds.
Talent recorded 15 points and five rebounds.
Woolridge had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Eagles (13-15, 5-6) play their final regular-season game Saturday against Florida Southwestern (27-1, 11-0, No. 1 FCSAA/NJCAA) at 2 p.m. in Fort Myers.
