Eagles Splits Home Doubleheader with Brevard
WINTER HAVEN - Courtney Putnam pitched a complete game and struck out six to help Polk State salvage a doubleheader with a 3-2 vicotry over Brevard Wednesday night.
Putnam, from Bartow, improved to 6-4.
Jen Hamil drove in all three runs including the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh. She finished 3-for-4.
Sarah Ellsworth was 3-for-4 with a run scored, and Megan Mayfield went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Brevard blanked the Eagles, 5-0, in the opener. Amanda Andrews (5-5) took the loss, while Molly Billue went 2-for-3 for the Eagles (15-13).
Polk returns to action Saturday when they travel to Gainesville to take on Santa Fe. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m.
