Eagles Tally Split with Brevard
The eighth-ranked Polk State College softball team (13-5) split their double header Sunday with Brevard on the road under windy, cold conditions.
The Eagles dropped the opener in a slugfest, 14-13, in eight innings and won the second game, 11-3.
Freshman Taylor Bowen (Gainesville) took the loss in relief.
Freshman Stephanie Koutsoumbaris (Palm Harbor) led Polk. She was 4-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and four runs scored.
Freshman Maggie Roberts (Lakeland/Lake Gibson), who extended her hitting streak to 12 games, was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI.
Freshman Rose Stevens (Bartow/Mulberry) tallied two hits including a double and stole a base.
Sophomore Deanna Littles (Auburndale) was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Bowen (4-4) earned the victory in the second game. She allowed three runs, one earned, on seven hits over seven innings.
Stevens went 5-for-5 with a double, three stolen bases and four runs scored.
Koutsoumbaris was 3-for-5 with two RBI.
Roberts was 3-for-4 with an RBI and Littles went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI.
The Eagles host Indian River Wednesday at 4 p.m.
