The Polk State Eagles have a 10-game winning streak after beating Highland Community College (Illinois) and St. Clair County Community College today in Clermont.
In the two five-inning games, the Eagles stroked 47 hits and slammed 7 home runs.
Against Highland Community College, Polk State won 20-8 in five innings. Winning pitcher Riley Caylor (8-2) went the distance, striking out nine and walking one.
Deanna Littles's grand slam was the big blow of the game. The Auburndale graduate went 2-for-3 with 5 RBI.
Stephanie Koutsoumbaris (4-for-5) doubled, homered, and drove in 4 runs.
Starting pitcher Kayla Montgomery (11-3) got the win against St. Clair in a 24-0 shutout (five innings). She struck out nine while walking none.
Montgomery (2 RBI), Littles (2 RBI), Kayla Williams (3 RBI), and Erica Morrisey (1 RBI) each homered for Polk State. Maggie Roberts (3-for-5) added a double and drove in 4 runs.
The Eagles improved to 27-8. They begin Suncoast Conference play Tuesday against State College of Florida with games at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the DiamondPlex in Winter Haven.
