Eagles clinch conference championship

Polk State clinched the Suncoast Conference softball championship tonight, beating South Florida State College 10-2 (five innings) in the first game of a doubleheader in Winter Haven. 

The Eagles have now won back-to-back conference championships. 

In the first game, pitcher Haleigh Corbally raised her record to 14-3. 

Rose Stevens (1-for-3) had an RBI and a stolen base, Kaitlyn Warren (1-for-3) also stole abase. Maggie Roberts (3-for-3) drove in two runs, as did Stephanie Koutsoumbaris (2-for-3), who also had a stolen base. Kayla Montgomery went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. Harlee Rimes (1-for-3) also drove in a run. 

In game two, Kayla Montgomery (17-5) turned in a complete-game, seven-inning performance as the Eagles won 8-2. She also went 1-for-3 at the plate.

Stephanie Koutsoumbaris (1-for-4) homered and drove in a run. Rose Stevens (3-for-4) had a stolen base and an RBI. Kara Seymour went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Harlee Rimes (1-for-2) had a double. 

The Eagles (39-10, 12-2 in the Suncoast Conference) travel to St. Petersburg College April 22 for games at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
