Polk State won its 41st game today, setting a school record for most regular-season wins.
The Eagles entered the record books by shutting out Seminole State College of Florida 5-0 in the second game of today's doubleheader in Winter Heaven.
In that game, Haleigh Corbally improved to 15-4.
On offense, Kaitlyn Warren (2-for-3) doubled, tripled, and drove in two runs. Harlee Rimes went 1-for-2 with three RBI. Rose Stevens (2-for-4) stole two bases and drove in a run. Erica Morrissey (1-for-3) also had an RBI.
In game two, the Eagles scored the only run they would need in the bottom of the fourth, when Roberts led off the inning with a double. Rimes, running for Roberts, went to third on a wild pitch and scored when Morrissey hit a sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the sixth, Polk State added four more runs when Roberts and Kayla Montgomery (1-for-3 with two RBI) each hit two-run home runs. Roberts's blast, her 15th of the season, broke Kenshyra Jackson's record for most home runs in a a career with 25. Roberts also holds the school record with 15 home runs in a season.
Roberts (3-for-3) also had a double and two RBI. Warren and Kara Seymour each went 1-for-3.
With the shutout victory, Montgomery ends the regular season at 18-6.
The Eagles finish the regular season 41-12, 12-4 in the Suncoast Conference. They start the state tournament in Pensacola May 2 against Gulf Coast State at 2 p.m. Central Time.
