The Polk State Eagles won again today, defeating St Petersburg College 6-1 in the NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Softball Tournament. Earlier, the Eagles beat Gulf Coast State College 14-5.

Against St. Petersburg, Kayla Montgomery (19-6) pitched a compete game, striking out four and giving up three hits.

The Eagles scored a run in the first inning on an RBI single by Maggie Roberts

Then in the bottom of the second the Eagles rallied for five runs with two outs. Back-to-back doubles by Kara Seymour (1-for-3) and Harlee Rimes (2-for-3) brought home the first run. Rose Stevens (1-for-4) then hit a two-run home run, the first of her career.

A double by Kaitlyn Warren (1-for-3) and an RBI single by Stephanie Koutsoumbaris (1-for-3 with a stolen base) made it 5-0. After the Eagles loaded the bases, Kayla Montgomery drew a walk to increase the lead to 6-0.

St. Petersburg spoiled Montgomery's shutout bid in the top of the fifth with a solo home run.
