Eagles win twice at Leadoff Classic

Polk State won twice today at the Leadoff Classic in Clearwater. 

In the first game the Eagles beat Northwest Florida State College 8-5. 

Starting pitcher Lauren West got the win to improve to 1-0 with one save. She worked four innings, struck out three, and yielded four runs, two of which were unearned. 

Danielle Gizoski (1-0) pitched the final three innings, earning her first save. 

Amber Butler led the Eagles on offense, going two-for-three with a three-run home run. 

Kacie Booth (two for four) had two RBI, and Harlee Rimes went two-for-three and scored three runs. 

In game two, the Eagles beat Richard Bland College 9-1 in a five-inning run-rule decision. 

Riley Caylor pitched a complete game, improving her record to 2-0. She struck out three and allowed an unearned run. 

Gizoski had a big day at the plate, going two-for-three with a triple, a home run, and two RBI. 

Erica Morrissey went two-for-four with a double and two RBI. 

Taylor Fike also drove in two runs. 

The Eagles (4-0 and No. 6 in the Florida FCSAA Coaches' Poll) return to Clearwater tomorrow to face Palm Beach State College at 9 a.m. and Gordon State College at 11 a.m.
