Eagles soar past Falcons for doubleheader sweep

Polk State scored 23 runs today as the Eagles swept a doubleheader with Daytona State College by scores of 8-4 and 15-12. 

Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the third in game one, the Eagles scored four runs with two out. They added four more runs the following inning. 

Kacie Booth and Amber Butler each went two-for-four with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. 

Taylor Baker had two singles, two RBI, and a run scored. 

Harlee Rimes (two-for-four) scored a run and drove in a run. 

Danielle Gizoski doubled, walked, stole a base, scored a run, and drove in a run. 

Miranda LeFan and Shelisa Oliver each singled and drove in a run. 

Taylor Baker pitched a complete game and allowed four runs and eight hits while striking out three. Her record improves to 2-1. 

In the second game, the Eagles gave up two runs in the top of the first but came right back to take the lead in the bottom of the inning when Booth slammed a three-run home run over the left field fence. 

They added five more runs in the inning for an 8-2 lead. 

The Eagles had a 12-4 advantage after three innings, but then the Falcons started to chip away at the lead. 

They scored three in the fourth, cutting the lead to 12-7. 

The Eagles answered with a run in the fourth, and the Falcons came right back with four runs in the fifth inning, cutting the lead to 13-11. 

Polk State scored its final two runs in the bottom of the fifth and gave up one final run in the seventh for the 15-12 victory. 

Booth drove in four runs and scored two. 

Butler had two hits, a walk, three RBI and scored three runs. 

Autumn Terwilliger singled, stole second, and scored a run. 

Rimes singled twice, doubled, drove in a run, and scored twice. 

Baker had a single and an RBI and scored a run. 

Erica Morrissey singled and scored twice. 

Kassidy Kennard collected three hits and two RBI and scored two runs. 

Oliver walked, stole second, and scored a run. 

Taylor Fike singled and scored a run. 

Baker (3-1) got the win in relief of starting pitcher Riley Caylor. Lauren West earned her third save. 

The Eagles (15-11, No. 7 in the FCSAA Softball Coaches' Poll) travel to Ocala tomorrow for games against the College of Central Florida at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
