Polk State starts the 2016 season ranked No. 8 in the NJCAA Region 8 Softball Coaches' Poll

Last year, the Eagles finished second in the Suncoast Conference. This season's squad includes seven sophomores and 11 freshmen.

Head Coach Jeff Ellis is excited about the team.

"We have a great mix of experience and talent," he said. "It is definitely the most athletic team I have coached in my eight years here. The sky is the limit as far as what this team can achieve this year."

The Eagles begin play with a doubleheader against Lake-Sumter on Jan. 29 at 4 p.m. at the Diamondplex in Winter Haven.
