Eagles win one of two against South Florida

Polk State split a doubleheader with South Florida State College tonight in Winter Haven. 

In game one, the Eagles scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to win 6-5. 

With one out, Kacie Booth doubled off the left-field fence. Heather Novis followed with an infield single. Booth advanced to third and then scored when a throw to third sailed into left field. 

The Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. Polk State got a run in the bottom of the inning when Mikayla Barwig singled, moved to second on Sairah Shirah's single, and scored on a single by Dakoda Bozeman

The Eagles took a 3-2 lead in the fourth. After Booth reached second on an error, Novis beat out an infield hit, and both runners scored on a double by Barwig. 

The Panthers answered with three runs in the fifth to take a 5-3 lead. 

The Eagles came back to tie the score at 5 with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Bozeman walked, stole second, and took third on Amber Butler's infield hit. Meghan Lindell drove in both runners with a double.   

Ally Baert got the win, her first of the season, in relief of Maddie Scott

Barwig went 2-for-3 with a double, a run, and two RBI. 

Lindell also had a double and two RBI. 

Novis collected two singles and a run. 

Booth had a double and two runs. 

Bozeman singled, stole a base, scored a run, and drove in a run. 

Shirah went 2-for-3.

Baert, Butler, and Kelsey Armstrong each singled. 

The Eagles dropped the second game 10-2 in five innings. They scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth when Booth blasted a two-out home run with a runner on base. 

Booth also singled, doubled, and stole a base. 

Butler had a double, and Novis drew a walk. 

Starting pitcher Taylor Baker took the loss. 

The Eagles (16-25, 4-10) play Hillsborough Community College on Thursday at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. in Winter Haven.
