Eagles split at Indian River Tournament

Polk State split a pair of games today at the Indian River Tournament in Vero Beach.

The Eagles lost the first game 9-1 in five innings to Eastern Florida State College.

Kelsey Armstrong went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Mikayla Barwig and Jada Wesley each singled.

Starting pitcher Maddie Scott took the loss.

The Eagles bounced back in game two, beating Florida State College at Jacksonville 10-2 in five innings.

Taite Powell got the win, allowing two runs on eight hits in five innings. She also helped her cause at the plate, getting a single, a run, and an RBI.

Mary-Margaret Maggard blasted a three-run homer and drove in four runs. 

Barwig doubled and scored a run.

Heather Novis had a single, a run, and an RBI.

Ally Baert singled, walked, and scored twice.

Wesley had a single, a run, and two RBI.

The Eagles (10-12) continue tournament play tomorrow with games against College of Central Florida at noon and Indian River State College at 4:30 p.m.
