Eagles split DH with South Florida

Polk State softball began Suncoast Conference play last night, splitting a doubleheader with South Florida State College in Avon Park. 

The Eagles won the first game 6-1.

They scored a run in the second, four in the third, and one in the fifth.

Krista Hoyt led the Eagles with a home run, a single, two runs, and one RBI.

Keely Staats went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, a walk, two runs, and two RBI. 

Lauren Estrada singled, doubled, and drove in a run. 

Chelsea Whitmore had a 2-for-3 game with an RBI.

Destiny Breeden singled and scored a run.

Caitlyn Whitehead walked and scored.

Brianna Snell earned the win, pitching a complete game and allowing four hits while walking one and striking out eight. She also singled in four at-bats.

Polk State lost the second game 7-1.

Trailing 2-1, the Eagles allowed five runs in the sixth inning as South Florida went on to win.

Staats had a solo home run, and Hoyt singled. 

Chelsea Whitmore took the loss.

The Eagles return to action against Hillsborough Community College on Thursday at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. in Winter Haven.
