Polk State dropped both ends of a doubleheader against Daytona State tonight at the Diamondplex in Winter Haven.

After taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the first game, the Eagles found themselves trailing 9-8 in the bottom of the seventh with the tying run on third base and no outs. They failed to score, however, and lost 9-8.

The Eagles had two-run home runs by Destiny Breeden and Keely Staats.

Anizya Vargas went three-for-four with a double, a run, and three RBI.

Alexis McBride singled, doubled, scored a run, and drove in a run.

Krista Hoyt had a single, a triple, and two RBI.

In the second game, the Falcons had an 8-0 lead in the fourth when Keely Staats hit another two-run homer, cutting the lead to 8-2.

Daytona State added a run in the sixth and won 9-2.

Victoria Perry went two-for-three, and Hoyt singled and scored on Staats' homer.

The Eagles (5-5) travel to Sanford on Saturday to play Seminole State (4-1) at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
