Polk State split a doubleheader today against St. Johns River State College in Palatka.
In the first game, the Eagles had a 10-6 lead going into the bottom of the seventh. St. Johns River rallied but came up a run short as the Eagles won 10-9.
Alexis McBride went 3-for-4 with a walk, two stolen bases, two runs, and an RBI.
Krista Hoyt singled, doubled, walked, drove in two runs, and scored three.
Victoria Gonzalez had a 3-for-4 game with a double and a run scored.
Lauren Estrada had a single, a walk, a stolen base, and two runs.
Victoria Perry doubled and scored a run.
Anizya Vargas had a single, a walk, and a run.
Starting pitcher Sarah Grindrod worked five innings, allowing five runs on 11 hits, walking one and striking out two.
Megan Wilder pitched the final innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
Polk State lost the second game 7-4.
The Eagles had a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth, but the Vikings put three runs on the board to go up 4-3.
Polk State tied it at 4 with a run in the top of the sixth, but the Vikings answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning and went on to win.
Jackson went 2-for-4 with a home run and a stolen base.
Gonzalez also homered and singled.
Vargas had a double and an RBI.
Estrada also doubled and drew a walk.
Hoyt walked, stole a base, and scored a run.
Grindrod worked the first three innings and yielded four runs on four hits and four walks.
Wilder gave up three runs on five hits and four walks.
The Eagles (9-10) play Seminole State (11-8) on Thursday at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. in Winter Haven.
