Eagles split with St. Pete

Polk State split a doubleheader tonight at St. Petersburg College. 

The Eagles collected 12 hits in game one, winning 8-7.  

Trailing 6-5, Polk State scored two runs in the fifth to go up 7-6. St. Pete countered with a run in the sixth, tying the game at 7.  

The Eagles scored the winning run in the top of the seventh. 

Destiny Breeden went 4-for-4 with three runs. 

Destinee Jackson homered, singled, and walked. 

Victoria Perry also hit a homer and drove in two runs. 

Lauren Estrada went 2-for-3 with a double, a sacrifice, a run, and two RBI. 

Alexis McBride had a double, two sacrifices, and two RBI. 

Diamond Simmons doubled and scored a run. 

Anizya Vargas had a single, a sacrifice, and an RBI. 

Alayna Carranco tossed a complete game, allowing seven runs on nine hits and no walks.

 

The Eagles dropped the second game 5-2. 

Down 2-0, they tied it with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth, but the Titans answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning and the 5-2 win. 

Jackson doubled and drove in two runs.  

Vargas, Breeden, and Krista Hoyt each singled. 

Megan Wilder worked six innings, allowing one earned run as the Eagles made five errors. 

She gave up six hits and two walks.

 

The Eagles (15-18 1-3) hit the road Tuesday for a pair of games at Florida SouthWestern State College (28-8, 4-0, No. 1 FCSAA/NJCAA) in Fort Myers at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
