Polk Women’s Soccer Releases 2011 Schedule
LAKELAND - The Polk State College women's soccer team (with new team name: the Eagles) will play an 18-game schedule in 2011, a slate highlighted by two tournaments and two games against nationally ranked opponents and six home contests at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale.
The Eagles, under ninth-year Head Coach Bill Read, open the season at 7:00 a.m. Aug. 29, when they host Southeastern University. On Saturday, Sept. 2, the Polk Eagles will then turn their attention to Lewis & Clark Community College from Illinois. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) ranked Lewis & Clark 7th in their Pre-Season National Poll.
Polk will then host Broward Community College on Saturday, Sept. 10; then the team will hit the road to take on Warner University Saturday, Sept. 17. The Eagles will get another visit from Broward Community College on Saturday, Sept. 24.
Polk will head to Georgia for the Tifton Tournament and play Georgia Military Community College on Friday, Sept. 30, and Andrew Community College on Saturday, Oct. 1. The Eagles will conclude the tournament on Sunday, Oct. 2, with a game against South Georgia.
The Polk Eagles will return to the Sunshine State for road games at Brevard Community College on Thursday, Oct. 6; at Brevard Community College on Friday, Oct. 14; and at Broward again on Saturday, Oct. 15.
The Eagles will take their second trip to the State of Georgia, this time playing in the Atlanta Tournament. On Saturday, Oct. 22, the Eagles will take on national power, Georgia Perimeter College. Georgia Perimeter advanced to the NJCAA Women's National Championship semifinals last season before falling to eventual champion Paradise Valley Community College. Georgia Perimeter is ranked 4th in the NSCAA Pre-Season Poll. The Eagles will close out the tournament against Middle Georgia on Sunday, Oct. 23.
On Wednesday, Oct. 29, Polk will host Brevard Community College before gearing up to play in the NJCAA Region 8 District Tournament.
