Polk Downs South Georgia in Tifton Tournament

DOUGLAS, Ga. - The Polk State College women's soccer team beat South Georgia 3-1 on Sunday in the final of the Tifton Tournament.

The Eagles improved to 6-1-2 on the season. The Eagles will now head back to the sunshine state for three consecutive NJCAA Region 8 road matches. 

On Sunday, the Eagles wasted no time getting on the board as Ashley Walker (Spring Hill, FL) scored on a right-footed shot 16 minutes into the game. Elena Atenza (Tampa, FL) got assists on the goal.

Eight minutes later, Dominique Paige (Orlando, FL) scored her second goal of the tournament to make the score 2-0. The third Eagle score came from from Jenna Murphy (Tampa, FL) at the 24 minute mark of the second half. Alexis De Santo (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL) picked up the assist.

South Georgia scored their only goal late in the second half.

"Heading into the game I knew we were going to face a good team," Polk Head Coach Bill Read said. "Today's game was a challenge for us. All weekend long we got good play from Catlyn, Dominique, Rebecca, and Elena."

With the win coach Read picks up his 100th win of his career.  

The Black & Red hit the road on Thursday, Oct. 6 to take on NJCAA Region 8 rivals Brevard Community College. First kick slated for 4 p.m.
