Getting to Know: Elena Atenza
WINTER HAVEN — The third edition of "Getting to Know" features rising sophomore Elena Atenza from the Polk State's women's soccer team. The Tampa, Fla., native was a huge part of last year's team.
After a solid freshman season for the Eagles, Atenza sat down and gave us a little more of an in-depth look at herself.
TE: Why did you decide to come to Polk?
EA: I decided to attend Polk because I was given a full athletic scholarship and I wanted to play soccer. It would make it easier for me to get into other universities I wanted to go to and play there as well. Polk also has a really good nursing program as well.
TE: What are your post-graduation plans?
EA: To transfer to a university, finish my degree in nursing, and play two more years of college soccer.
TE: Who is your funniest teammate?
EA: Jenna Murphy! I always laugh at the things she does no matter what it is.
TE: If you could travel to any place in the world, where would you go and why?
EA: Australia, it just seems like a cool place to visit.
TE: What/who inspired you to get involved with soccer?
EA: My next-door neighbors all played and so I decided to try it.
TE: What do you like best about team road trips?
EA: The bus rides, there's always something crazy going on.
TE: What is your best non-athletic skill?
EA: I can paint pretty well.
TE: What is your biggest pet peeve and why?
EA: When two people drive right next to each other and no one can pass. I don't like this because it just gets annoying when they want to go slower and it also holds up traffic.
TE: What is an obstacle in life you had to overcome?
EA: My uncle and close friend passing away.
TE: What is one thing that most people don't know about you?
EA: I'm really shy even though outwardly I don't seem like it.
TE: Favorite place to play in Region 8 besides Polk?
EA: I enjoyed playing at Brevard.
