The Polk State Eagles soccer team opened its season tonight with a 1-1 tie against Warner University at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale.
After a 0-0 first half, Warner scored on a penalty kick at 26:30 in the second half.
Polk State's Alexis Arroyo scored at 12:45 to tie the game.
"I thought we looked a little sloppy, a little lethargic, in the first half," said Eagles Head Coach Steve Linamen. "We had trouble getting our rhythm, and when we did we were too slow.
"Once we started to move the ball our connections were good, but we needed to be faster. The second half was much better. The pace of the game was better.
For the game, the Eagles took 14 shots and had five goalkeeper saves. They also had six corner kicks and committed five fouls
Warner had seven shots, two corner kicks, eight goalkeeper saves, and nine fouls.
The Eagles play Darton State College at 7 p.m. Aug. 31 at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex.
